Maria Blair, Vice President of Administration,
|
Maria Blair, now in her 47th
year of service, has worked for
Bomco longer than any other
current employee. While she is
retiring from her daily duties as
Vice President of Administration,
she will retain her positions of
Clerk of the Corporation and
Chairperson of the Board.
In 47 years of dedicated service, Maria has participated in virtually every aspect of Bomco’s growth and development. Although she was actually Bomco’s 10th employee, Maria was the 1st office employee. In fact, as she says, “I was the office.” Her responsiblities grew as the company expanded and she became the book keeper, then office manager, then controller and on to her current positions. Asked about the highlights of her career, she commented, “everyday I loved what I was doing, and I had the good fortune to work with many wonderful people.” She credits former President Pete Banks for establishing a work environment that permitted people to do their best and to grow. Maria’s greatest highlight was the company’s growth from ten to one hundred people and its current position as leading supplier of precision formed metal assemblies for aerospace, defence and commercial enterprises. |
What made this growth possible? Maria attributes the positive
work environment and Pete Bank’s forward-looking attitude.
“We were always ahead of the time” she adds, “whether it was job
sharing, flex time, computers or programming.”
Asked if she has any advice for new, young employees, Maria responded, “Yes, stay with Bomco. You will never be happier or have a better chance to achieve your potential than with Bomco.” This advice certainly worked well for Maria. What about Maria’s earliest memories of Bomco? Interestingly enough, Maria and her family lived nearby and she remembers picking blueberries with her mother on the hill that became Bomco’s site! When asked for her thoughts on Bomco’s future, Maria replied: “Pete Banks hand picked Mike McCarthy to be his successor as president and Mike has picked up the ball and is doing a fabulous job. He is getting excellent support, moving ahead, and Bomco’s future is secure”. And what about Maria’s future plans? “Well, some traveling,” she says, “and perhaps some volunteer work, gardening, and the garden club. We are going to the Grand Canyon in September and perhaps Hawaii later.” After 47 years of service, Maria certainly deserves a relaxing retirement. We wish you well Maria! |
| The addition of this new Okuma computer controlled slant bed turret lathe to Bomco’s production line is a significant advancement in machining capabilities and a boost to overall productivity. This Captain Series Lathe provides Bomco with an additional turning center with guaranted repeatability, optimum throughput and production speed, and tightly dimensioned parts without secondary finishing. The control system includes tool life management, NC operation monitor, on screen “pocket manual” and a machine management program.
